The MCF Advisors office in Cincinnati, OH
Cincinnati, OH

MCF does not have a Dayton office. Families from Centerville, Kettering, Beavercreek and the towns north along I-75 work with our Cincinnati office at 8370 E Kemper Rd, which sits at the top of the metro on the Dayton side of town. Depending on where you live, that is somewhere between a half hour and a bit over an hour.

We would rather say that plainly than dress it up. In practice the arrangement works because the drive runs both directions and because most of the work is not location-dependent. Clients who like meeting face to face tend to come down once or twice a year, often pairing it with something else in the area, and everything between those meetings happens by video, phone and secure document exchange. Advisors also travel north when a meeting genuinely calls for a room, a spouse, a stack of benefit paperwork and two hours.

What brings Dayton-area households to us is usually the subject matter rather than the address. This is a federal and defense-heavy market, and a career at Wright-Patterson or with one of the contractors around it produces retirement questions that look nothing like a private-sector 401(k) rollover: a FERS annuity with a survivor election, a Thrift Savings Plan that has to be coordinated with everything else, a supplement that stops at a certain age, and sometimes military retired pay layered underneath it. Our advisors, CPAs and estate planners work as one team, so the tax projection, the portfolio and the beneficiary review happen in the same conversation.

Local retirement picture

What Dayton retires from

The plans and employers we actually see across this market. Knowing them is the difference between generic advice and a plan built for the benefits you hold.

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base

The region's largest employer, and the reason federal retirement is routine work here. Civilian careers on base generally run through FERS, with a pension component, a Thrift Savings Plan and Social Security that have to be sequenced together, plus survivor and annuity elections that are difficult to revisit once filed.

Defense and aerospace contractors around the base

Engineers and program managers who have moved between government service and contractor payroll often hold a partial federal benefit alongside a corporate 401(k). Untangling which years count where is usually the first step before any retirement date makes sense.

Premier Health and Kettering Health

The two health systems anchor employment across the southern suburbs. Clinical and administrative staff typically arrive with a 403(b), sometimes a 457(b) beside it, and a question about what order to draw from them.

Honda's Ohio operations and its supplier network

Long manufacturing tenures in the corridor north of Dayton build substantial retirement plan balances, and shift premiums and overtime make income planning less tidy than a salary would.

Employer plans are described in general terms. Your own benefits, elections and deadlines govern, and we review them directly rather than assuming.

Questions

Questions from Dayton

You do not have a Dayton office. How does this actually work?

You are served from our Cincinnati office at 8370 E Kemper Rd, and we say so on every page rather than implying a local address. The practical shape of it: an initial meeting either in Cincinnati or by video, in-person reviews once or twice a year for clients who want them, and video, phone and secure document sharing for everything else. Advisors do drive north when a meeting warrants it. If regular face-to-face contact within fifteen minutes of your house is what you are looking for, we would rather tell you that up front.

Do you understand federal retirement, or is this mostly private-sector planning?

Federal benefits are a core part of the work in this market, because Wright-Patterson makes them unavoidable. That means FERS and its annuity component, Thrift Savings Plan allocation and withdrawal choices, the annuity supplement that applies to some retirees before a certain age, survivor benefit elections and, for many households, military retired pay and its interaction with a civilian career. We describe how these generally work and then model your specific record rather than applying rules of thumb.

How long is the drive from the Dayton suburbs to your Cincinnati office?

Springboro is the closest at roughly half an hour. Centerville and Miamisburg run about forty minutes, Kettering, Oakwood, Beavercreek and Xenia are closer to fifty, and Troy and Tipp City are an hour or more. Those are honest numbers, not best-case ones, and most clients build their in-person meetings around them rather than fighting them.

Can your CPAs handle our tax return if we live in Ohio and you are in Cincinnati?

Location is not the constraint on tax work, and Cincinnati is in Ohio as well, so there is no cross-state wrinkle for most Dayton-area households. For qualifying relationships, MCF's CPAs prepare and file the return, which matters mainly because tax decisions then get made while the year is still open. Not every client uses every service, and we will be clear about what fits your situation.
